Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef until fully cooked. Drain excess fat and stir in the taco seasoning according to package instructions.
Layer half of the tortilla chips in the baking dish, followed by half of the seasoned beef mixture and half of the taco sauce. Top with half of the shredded cheese.
Repeat layering with remaining chips, beef mixture, taco sauce, and cheese.
Cover with foil and bake for 20 minutes. Remove foil and bake an additional 10 minutes until cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
Let cool for a few minutes before serving. Top with sour cream and jalapeños as desired.
