Ingredients
  

Gratin Base
  • 4 medium Vidalia onions sliced
  • 2 tablespoons butter for sautéing
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup grated Gruyère cheese
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon salt to taste
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper to taste
  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme chopped

Method
 

Prepare the Onions
  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the sliced Vidalia onions and sauté until they are soft and translucent, about 10 minutes.
Combine Ingredients
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the sautéed onions, heavy cream, Gruyère cheese, half of the Parmesan cheese, salt, pepper, and thyme. Mix well.
Bake the Gratin
  1. Transfer the mixture to a baking dish. Sprinkle the remaining Parmesan cheese on top.
  2. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly.
Serve
  1. Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
