Traditional Scottish Clapshot Recipe

Clapshot is a traditional Scottish dish made from a delicious combination of mashed potatoes and swede (rutabaga), often served as a side dish.

Ingredients
  

Vegetables
  • 2 large potatoes peeled and cubed
  • 1 large swede peeled and cubed
  • 2 tablespoons butter for mashing
  • 1 pinch salt to taste
  • 1 pinch black pepper to taste

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Peel and cube the potatoes and swede.
  2. Place the cubed potatoes and swede in a pot and cover with water.
  3. Add a pinch of salt to the water and bring to a boil.
Cooking
  1. Reduce heat and simmer for about 25 minutes, or until the vegetables are tender.
  2. Drain the vegetables and return them to the pot.
  3. Add butter, salt, and pepper, then mash until smooth and well combined.
Serving
  1. Serve warm as a side dish, optionally garnished with additional butter.
