Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet 2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast
  • ½ cup granulated sugar divided
  • 1 cup whole milk lukewarm
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter softened
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 2 cups fresh strawberries sliced
  • 1 cup powdered sugar

Method

  1. In a large bowl, combine lukewarm milk and yeast; let sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. In another bowl, mix flour, ¼ cup sugar, and cinnamon. Add melted butter to the yeast mixture and gradually incorporate dry ingredients until a sticky dough forms.
  3. Knead on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth. Place in an oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  4. Punch down the dough; roll out into a rectangle (½ inch thick). Spread more butter over the surface, sprinkle with remaining sugar and cinnamon, then add sliced strawberries.
  5. Roll tightly into a log and slice into about twelve pieces. Place cut-side up in a greased baking pan; cover and let rise for another 30 minutes.
  6. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake for 25 minutes or until golden brown. Drizzle with icing made from powdered sugar mixed with milk before serving.
