Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup stone-ground grits
  • 1 lb large shrimp peeled and deveined
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter divided
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 3 cups chicken broth
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Method
 

  1. In a medium saucepan, bring chicken broth to a boil. Gradually whisk in grits, reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 20-25 minutes until thickened.
  2. Stir in heavy cream and 1 tablespoon of butter; season with salt and pepper. Keep warm on low heat.
  3. In a skillet over medium heat, melt the remaining butter and sauté minced garlic until fragrant (about 1 minute).
  4. Add shrimp and cayenne pepper; cook until shrimp are pink and opaque (about 3 minutes).
  5. Serve creamy grits topped with shrimp and drizzle with sauce from the skillet.
