Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup stone-ground grits
  • 4 cups water or chicken broth
  • 1 lb fresh or frozen shrimp peeled and deveined
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter divided
  • 2 oz cream cheese
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 tsp Old Bay seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Method
 

  1. In a medium saucepan, bring water or chicken broth to a boil. Gradually whisk in grits, then reduce heat to low. Cook for 20-25 minutes until thickened, stirring occasionally.
  2. Once grits are cooked, stir in 2 tbsp butter and cream cheese until melted. Season with salt and pepper.
  3. In a skillet over medium heat, melt remaining butter. Add minced garlic and sauté until fragrant (about 1 minute). Stir in shrimp and Old Bay seasoning, cooking until shrimp turn pink (about 3 minutes per side).
  4. Pour any juices from the skillet into the grits, folding gently.
  5. Serve hot by scooping grits onto plates and topping with sautéed shrimp.
