Prep Time 15 minutes
Cook Time 8 minutes
Total Time 23 minutes
Servings: 4 servings

Ingredients

  • 1 lb beef chuck roast (cooked and shredded)
  • 1 cup birria broth (from cooking the beef)
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp oregano
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 8 slices bread (sourdough or your choice)
  • 2 cups cheese (shredded, e.g., Oaxaca, mozzarella, or cheddar)
  • 4 tbsp butter (softened for spreading)

Method

  1. Combine the ingredients for the filling in a bowl.
  2. Mix together 1 lb of cooked and shredded beef chuck roast, 1 cup of birria broth, 1 tsp of cumin, 1 tsp of oregano, 1 tsp of salt, and 1 tsp of black pepper until well blended.
  3. Spread butter on one side of each slice of bread.
  4. Use 4 tbsp of softened butter to coat the bread generously.
  5. On the unbuttered side, layer 2 cups of your favorite shredded cheese, followed by a generous scoop of the birria filling, and then more cheese.
  6. Top with another slice of bread, buttered side up.
  7. Heat a skillet over medium heat.
  8. Place the sandwiches in the skillet and cook for about 3-4 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy.
  9. Press down gently with a spatula to ensure even grilling and melting.
  10. Serve the sandwiches once both sides are perfectly golden and the cheese has melted beautifully.
  11. Slice them in half and serve with extra birria broth for dipping, adding an extra layer of flavor!
