Ingredients
  

Custard Layer
  • 2 cups milk whole or 2%
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 large egg yolks
Berry Layer
  • 2 cups mixed berries strawberries, blueberries, raspberries
Cake Layer
  • 1 cup sponge cake cut into cubes
Whipped Cream
  • 1 cup heavy cream chilled
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Method
 

Prepare Custard
  1. In a saucepan, whisk together milk, sugar, cornstarch, and egg yolks. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until thickened. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract. Let cool.
Prepare Whipped Cream
  1. In a mixing bowl, beat the heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until soft peaks form.
Assemble Trifle
  1. In a trifle dish, layer half of the sponge cake cubes, half of the custard, half of the mixed berries, and half of the whipped cream. Repeat the layers with the remaining ingredients.
  2. Finish with a layer of whipped cream and garnish with additional berries on top.
Chill
  1. Refrigerate the trifle for at least 2 hours before serving to allow the flavors to meld.
